It's going to be many months until Supergirl flies into theaters. With the next DC Universe (DCU) movie handed a June 26, 2026 release date last May , we've still got a lengthy wait on our hands for the Girl of Steel's first big-screen adventure in over 40 years.

Nonetheless, it's never too early to get the lowdown on its cast. In this guide, you'll find out which actors are involved, learn about the characters they'll portray, and see where you might have seen them before. Light spoilers follow for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow , the comic book series that this movie is heavily inspired by. Full spoilers follow for this year's Superman movie, too, so proceed with caution. After winning the battle to play the DCU's Supergirl in January 2024 , Alcock will reprise her role as Kara Zor-El in the superhero's first silver screen project since 1984's Supergirl film.

I say "reprise", because Alcock has already made her DCU debut. She made an amusing cameo at the end of Superman, and that 30-second appearance was all I needed to have full confidence in the DCU's Supergirl film .

Anyway, for those unfamiliar with Supergirl, she's the biological cousin of Kal-El/Clark Kent, aka Superman. The only other Kryptonian to survive the destruction of their homeworld, Kara was forced to watch Krypton's demise a traumatic event that means she's more cynical, rebellious, and world-weary than Supes. Those traits belie her true nature, though, with Kara being just as compassionate as Kal-El and having an equally strong sense of justice to boot.

From a superpowers perspective, Kara has an identical skillset to Superman. This includes, but isn't limited to; superhuman strength, speed, endurance, agility, X-ray vision, heat vision, freeze breath, accelerated healing
factor, and the ability to fly.

As for Alcock, her big break came in season 1 of House of the Dragon . The first Game of Thrones prequel to air on HBO Max , it saw Alcock play a young Rhaenyra Targaryen. Last seen in Netflix 's Sirens , Alcock has also appeared in other shows including Upright , The Gloaming , and Reckoning . Another rising star, Ridley will have a substantial supporting role in this DCU Chapter One movie. She'll portray Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young warrior who sees out Supergirl to help Ruthye track down and exact revenge on the man who killed Ruthye's father.

The first image of Supergirl showed Kara in a place that'll be very familiar to DC comic book fans . Indeed, it's the location where the pair first cross paths in Woman of Tomorrow , so it's inevitable that Ruthye will encounter Kara in this same locale in the film formerly known as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow . But I'm getting off-track. Like Alcock, Ridley made a name for herself in the form of a highly-anticipated TV project. The series in question? Netflix's 3 Body Problem , aka the live-action adaptation of Liu Cixin's mind-bending
book trilogy. Ridley's working relationship with the world's best streaming service will continue apace, too, with the starlet reportedly set to feature in The Witcher season 4 and Blue Eye Samurai season 2. Matthias Schoenaerts

After months of speculation, Gunn confirmed (via the DC Studios podcast )
that Schoenaerts will play Supergirl 's primary villain.

Known as Krem of the Yellow Hills, he's a space pirate who's responsible for murdering Ruthye's father. A skilled hand-to-hand and long-range combatant, Krem won't be a pushover, even for someone as physically powerful as Kara Zor-El.

Another actor with a Netflix association, Schoenaerts is arguably best known for being part of the cast of 2020's The Old Guard and its 2025 sequel. The first actor to appear as different characters in the DCU and its predecessor the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Jason Momoa has traded in his DCEU Aquaman role to play a fan-favorite anti-hero in Gunn and Peter
Safran's nascent cinematic franchise.

The sole survivor of a near-immortal alien race know as the Czarians, Lobo traverses the cosmos as a motorcycle-riding mercenary. A skilled marksman, Lobo also possesses metahuman abilities including superhuman strength,
staine, agility, and reflexes. He can also heal rapidly and, depending on which era of DC Comics you read, has genius-level intellect.

Lobo was supposed to appear in Tom King and Bilquis Eveley's 'Supergirl:
Woman of Tomorrow' graphic novel King confirming as much in a comicbook.com interview in February 2023 but was eventually cut from the story. However,
to honor that original idea, Lobo will have a small but significant role in this flick, with Gunn explaining how Lobo will be a vital part of Supergirl
's plot .

His time as Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DCEU notwithstanding, Momoa has starred in numerous big name projects, including the billion dollar-spinning
A Minecraft Movie , Dune , Game of Thrones , Stargate: Atlantis , and See . Most recently, he co-created, executively produced, and starred in Chief of War on Apple TV+ . David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Zor-El and Alura

As the name of Krumholtz's character implies, he and Beecham will portray Kara's parents in the flick. That all but confirms Supergirl will include flashbacks to Krypton's destruction and/or the aftermath of the planet's ruination, and help to establish Kara's current worldview.

Best known for his role in The Santa Claus franchise, Krumholtz has also appeared in flicks including 10 Things I Hate About You , the Harold and
Kumar movie series, and Oppenheimer . On the TV front, he recently featured
in season 2 of acclaimed Peacock TV Original Poker Face and in season 1 of
the multi-award-winning Apple TV Original The Studio .

Meanwhile, Beecham will be familiar to fans of Netflix's genre-bending 1899
TV show, as well as other small-screen projects like Into the Badlands , The Village , King and Conqueror , and The Pursuit of Love . Film-wise, her most notable performance came in 2017's Daphne, which Beecham was nominated for numerous awards for. Another character who made their DCU debut in Superman , Krypto the Superdog will join Kara and Ruthye on their intergalactic journey to find Krem.

A fully CGI character, Kara's loyal canine companion is based on Gunn's own dog Ouzo. A mischievous rescue dog, Ouzo is often namechecked by Gunn as the main inspiration for 2025's Superman . Indeed, Gunn has regularly recounted the tale of how Ouzo was his way-in during Gunn's struggle to come up with
the story for the Man of Steel's latest cinematic adventure.
