Yep, watched it as well as "Mantis" that came out about the same time. Back when prime-time TV was filled with superhero's.

Yes, was shot in the back and paralyzed from the waist down. Built an exoskelaton so he could walk again, but used it has his crime fighting costume and spent the rest of his time in his wheelchair to hide his identity.

I don't remember animalman. Manimal was kind of campy. It was ok. I used to like it but in retrospect it wasn't really that good. I remember being disappointed that it was suddenly cancelled with no notice. Back then there was no Internet to tell you what was going on. You just turned on the TV and your show wasn't on. You kept trying week after week until you saw an article in TV guide or People or Entertainment Weekly that Manimal was cancelled
