Why does Fidonet still need to be "geo" based?

I have not been around long enough to really answer this question in
detail, but the short answer is because the master document says so and
has not been updated to reflect the changing times in any way.

    What master document is that?

The FidoNet policy document that defines the structure of the network and how traffic is handled.

I dont think its got lost - I understandstand the smiley, but the setup to the smiley wasnt there for me.

Anyway, I didnt take it seriously, I was more curious in what triggered the comment.

I describe this medium, (any every other text medium) to many as 2D, and without the third dimension any statements can be taken in any direction, and its up to the reader to choose which way they want to go with it.

Sadly, I see way to many (and myself included sometimes) go down the wrong path.

You think I knew the answer, so I asked anyway? That's odd.

My head was in FTSC docs, and I was thinking that the response was going to tell me which document - as I didnt recall seeing it (not that I've looked at them all).

I didnt even think of P4, I dont think I've ever looked at that...

For a moment, I forgot that many like to stick to it like glue, even though the world has moved on.

Ever since my wife passed away I sometimes need to write or say something silly and it's also a bit as I stated before: Fidonet is a hobby which unites us, but also which separates us because it's very difficult to transmit emotions, feelings, tonalities. It's lie I try to write a joke about a black cat, and the recipients cat died that day ... totally inappropriate without the intention.

I guess I thought you'd been around FidoNet longer than you have. That
was the first thing that I thought of when I read the question, and
thought anybody/everybody would have done the same. Mea culpa.

For a moment, I forgot that many like to stick to it like glue, even though the world has moved on.

That's fairly irrelevant, as it is still the "master document" of
FidoNet, whether one likes it, or believes in it, ... or not.

In the past of course. But even now, some of us still have traffic separated (international against domestic), in regards of cost.
