You'd think I'd get a discount as my car gets older.

I don't know for sure, but I think it has more to do with the crime in your region. (hit and runs, stolen cars, repair costs, etc)

I know it has to do with many factors. I only wish the insurance company would let me know those factors so that I could mitigate them.

Ex: A long time ago, I decided that my main car would be a pick up truck. GM had just come out with their non-boxy versions and I picked up a nice short box one. My insurance was really cheap. I held on to it for several years and then one year my insurance went WAY up.

Yet my truck was several years old. I had no accidents or tickets. I called to complain and ask for a reason.

The answer: They've been making your truck for several years, effectively unchanged. Your truck is worth much more now to thieves as a source of parts - which is impossible to track compared to something that has a VIN attached to it.

The customer service agents likely have cheat sheets in the office with gimmicks like that. It's like when my friend (who has no furnace) asked the electric company why his bill was so high and they said "It's been really cold."
